Lucia Day in Nizhny Novgorod
Swedish Center in Nizhny Novgorod and Swedish Club have celebrated the traditional Swedish holiday "Lucia Day" for the fourth time. Lucia Day is probably the only tradition in Sweden that can be called typically Swedish and unique.
In the very beginning of the evening announcement of results of the contest "History of the Nobel Prize" and distribution of awards took place. The prizes were sponsored by our partners - Tele2-Nizhny Novgorod Company and "Birzha plus Kariera" weekly.
Graduates of the Swedish language courses were congratulated with successful studies and awarded with diplomas. Then employees of the Swedish Center told the guests about the history of Lucia Day, showed pictures and video records about the Lucia Day festivities in Sweden. Culminating point of the evening - procession of the young girls in the long white vestures with red sashes. Holding candles in their hands, they made their ceremonial walk to the traditional song "Sancta Lucia".
The celebration continued with appearance of the music band "Mezhsezonie" and its popular hits.
At the end of celebration traditional "smorgasbord" followed.
